The challenge of this project was to create a cardboard furniture piece for children. Not only did the piece have to be child-size, but it also had to withstand a level of wear-and-tear. Since this project was meant to be donated to a local daycare center, each design student was given a children’s book at random for their concept.

I received Curious George by H. A. Ray. The concept for the furniture piece was the yellow hat, because it is one of the most iconic figures in the classic tales about the curious monkey, George. The resulting design of the seat was a larger than life hat to which the children could take retreat and read.
